Beykoz covers a long stretch of the Bosphorus's Asian shore, from Anadoluhisarı up to the Black Sea, and reaches far inland across forest and farmland. Its waterfront is a chain of old villages, among them Kanlıca, Çubuklu, Paşabahçe, Beykoz centre and Anadolu Kavağı, each gathered around a landing stage, with wooden waterside mansions and fish restaurants along the coast road.
Behind the shore the land rises quickly into wooded hills. Roads up to Kavacık, Polonezköy or the grounds of the Khedive's Palace are winding and steep. Kavacık, beside the Fatih Sultan Mehmet Bridge, is the most built-up part, with offices and apartment blocks.
People come to Beykoz for a meal by the water, a weekend in the forest at Polonezköy or a stay with family. The coast road runs close to sea level, which helps, though its pavements are narrow in places and traffic is heavy on summer weekends.

Getting around Beykoz with a wheelchair
There is no metro in Beykoz. Buses follow the coast road south towards Üsküdar and climb to Kavacık, where routes cross the Fatih Sultan Mehmet Bridge to the European side. Şehir Hatları ferries call at Asian-side landings such as Kanlıca and Anadolu Kavağı, the last stop of the long Bosphorus cruise. Sailings are fewer outside summer, and the inland villages, including Polonezköy and Riva, are realistically reached only by car or taxi.

The village of Anadolu Kavağı sits at sea level around its landing stage and fish restaurants, so the waterfront is the realistic part to enjoy from a wheelchair. Yoros Castle stands on the hill above, reached by a steep lane, and the ruins have rough ground. Many visitors settle for the view of the castle walls from the village instead.
Is Polonezköy suitable for a day out with a rental wheelchair?
Polonezköy is a small village in the forest, reached by road from Kavacık or Beykoz, and visitors usually go for long breakfasts in garden restaurants and walks in the nature park. Restaurant gardens may be grassy or gravelled and the park trails are unpaved. A manual chair pushed by a companion copes better than a scooter, and you will need a car or taxi to get there.
