What to expect in Fatih
Fatih is the whole Historic Peninsula, the triangle of old Istanbul enclosed by the Golden Horn, the Sea of Marmara and the Theodosian Land Walls. Within its boundaries are Sultanahmet, Eminönü, the Grand Bazaar and Süleymaniye, but also lived-in neighbourhoods that many tourists never see: Fener and Balat with their colourful houses on the Golden Horn, Vefa and Zeyrek below the Süleymaniye ridge, the fish restaurants of Kumkapı, and Samatya and Yedikule along the southern walls.
Our appointment-only store is in Aksaray, in the middle of the district, so Fatih is our home ground. Hotels are spread across Sultanahmet, Sirkeci, Laleli, Beyazıt and the streets around the Aksaray junction.
The peninsula is built on seven hills, and gradients are the main challenge. Main avenues such as Ordu Caddesi and the coast road are relatively level, but the lanes between them climb sharply and are often cobbled. Pavements in the older quarters are narrow, and Fener and Balat in particular have steep streets rising from the shore.

Getting around Fatih with a wheelchair
The T1 tram is the spine of the district, running from Eminönü and Sirkeci through Sultanahmet, Beyazıt and Aksaray out to Topkapı and Zeytinburnu. Yenikapı is the main interchange, where the Marmaray, the M1 and the M2 meet; the M2 then crosses to Beyoğlu via Vezneciler and the Haliç bridge. The T5 tram serves the Golden Horn shore from Eminönü to Fener, Balat and Eyüp, and ferries leave from the Eminönü piers. Lift availability varies by station, so confirm it before you travel.
Lifts, ramps and boarding help can change from day to day; check with the operator or venue before you rely on them.
Delivery to Fatih
Our standard delivery and collection service covers all of Fatih, including Sultanahmet, Sirkeci, Aksaray, Beyazıt, Fener, Balat and Kumkapı, so no additional location-based fee applies. Equipment is usually handed over at hotel reception or your apartment entrance. You can also collect from our Aksaray store at Kargı Sk. No: 18/A by appointment. Tell us which quarter you are staying in so we can plan a route through the peninsula's narrow streets.

Can I pick up the wheelchair myself instead of having it delivered?
Yes. Our store at Kargı Sk. No: 18/A in Aksaray works by appointment only, so message us first to agree a time, as staff are sometimes out on deliveries. A copy of your ID and a refundable deposit are required at pickup. For most visitors staying in Fatih, though, the standard delivery to the hotel is the simpler choice.
Are Fener and Balat manageable with a wheelchair?
The waterfront road and the T5 tram stops along the Golden Horn are fairly flat, but the streets rising into Fener and Balat, including the photogenic ones lined with coloured houses, are steep and cobbled. A good approach is to keep to the shore, where the Bulgarian St Stephen Church stands beside the road, and take a taxi if you want to see the upper lanes.
Which part of Fatih is easiest for a stay with a wheelchair?
It depends on your plans. Sultanahmet puts you next to the major monuments, but its streets are cobbled. Aksaray and Laleli have wide main roads and quick transport links but are busier and less picturesque. Sirkeci is convenient for ferries and the Marmaray. Whichever you choose, ask the hotel about steps at the entrance and the size of the lift.
What does delivery to Fatih cost?
