Küçükçekmece is a large district on the western side of the city, wrapped around the eastern shore of Küçükçekmece Lake, a lagoon separated from the Sea of Marmara by a narrow channel. It takes in the commercial area of Sefaköy along the D-100, the residential estates of Atakent and Halkalı, and older neighbourhoods closer to the water.
The district is mainly residential and commercial, so visitors usually come for family, business or medical appointments. Halkalı is also a railway hub, as the western terminus of the Marmaray and the starting point for some high-speed trains to Ankara.
Much of the district slopes gently, and the lakeside near the old Küçükçekmece centre has open waterside space. Sefaköy's streets are crowded and heavy with traffic, while Halkalı's newer estates have wider pavements but long distances between blocks.

Yes. Marmaray runs from Halkalı and Küçükçekmece east to Sirkeci, which is a short distance from Sultanahmet. From Sirkeci you can take the T1 tram uphill to the Sultanahmet stop rather than tackling the slope yourself. Sirkeci is a very deep station, so check its lifts are working before you set out.
