What to expect in Maltepe
Maltepe lies between Kadıköy and Kartal on the Marmara shore and is largely residential, with apartment blocks climbing from the coast to the hills around Başıbüyük and Gülsuyu. Its best-known feature is the vast reclaimed seafront used for concerts, fairs and large public events, together with the coastal park that joins Kadıköy's shoreline to the west.

Getting around Maltepe with a wheelchair
Marmaray runs close to the coast with stations at Küçükyalı, İdealtepe, Süreyya Plajı and Maltepe, putting much of the shoreline within reach of a train. The M4 follows the D-100 highway higher up, stopping at Küçükyalı, Maltepe, Huzurevi, Gülsuyu and Esenkent. Moving between the two lines means several blocks uphill or downhill, so a short taxi ride is often easier with a wheelchair.
