Buying a wheelchair from Istanbul Wheelchair
As well as renting equipment, we sell manual and electric wheelchairs and a range of medical and orthopaedic products. Most items are brought from our central warehouse, so send a request for the product you need: we check stock and get back to you, and most items can be supplied the same day or within two business days.
Visiting our store in Aksaray
Our store is at Kargı Sk. No: 18/A, Aksaray, in the Fatih district. Visits are by appointment only, because our team may be out on deliveries. Contact us before travelling so someone is there to show you the models and answer your questions. If you cannot come to the store, ask whether the item can be delivered to your hotel or home address.
Manual or electric wheelchair?
A manual wheelchair is lighter, folds into most car boots and needs no charging; it can be self-propelled or pushed by a companion. An electric wheelchair lets the user travel further on their own, but it is heavier, needs regular charging and is harder to carry in a car or take on a flight. Ask us to compare the weight and folded dimensions of the models in stock before you choose.
What to bring or send
The right chair depends on the user and how it will be used. Bring or send:
- the user’s height and weight, and their hip width if you can measure it;
- how the chair will be used: self-propelled or pushed, indoors or outdoors, daily or occasionally;
- the narrowest doorways at home and the boot size of the car it must fit in;
- any recommendation from the user’s clinician about the type of chair;
- your budget and whether you need a manual or electric model.
Rent or buy?
Renting usually makes sense for a short visit when your trip starts and ends in Istanbul. Buying is often the better choice when:
- your trip ends in another Turkish city or you leave from an airport after a layover, because we can only collect in Istanbul;
- the user needs the chair long term or wants to take it home;
- you want a specific model to keep.
Prices and specifications
Sale prices are given on request for the model and stock available. Rental prices are not purchase prices, so ask for a sales quote and the model’s specifications, including seat width, weight capacity and folded dimensions, before you decide.
After you buy
When you collect or receive the chair, ask us to show you how to fold it, adjust the footrests and use the brakes, and check the tyres and brakes regularly. If something needs fixing later, we can handle some repairs depending on the availability of spare parts for the model.
Donating a wheelchair
You can also buy a wheelchair through us to donate. We deliver it directly to individuals or families in genuine need on your behalf and can send confirmation or updates once the donation has been delivered.
